Contact Us → Contact Us →Jaakko joined Siili Solutions in June 2022 as Strategy and Business Development Manager. His responsibilities included strategy development, creating an M&A pipeline, and managing the deal flow. Over the next two years, Jaakko played a key role in refreshing and clarifying the company's strategy and creating an active M&A pipeline.
Jaakko has recently transitioned to his current role as Director of Strategy and Offering, so we thought it would be a great opportunity to properly introduce him with a rapid-fire interview.
Q: How has the role of AI and generative AI impacted Siili’s strategy?
Jaakko: AI and related themes have been around for many years, but generative AI has brought things to a new level. In every service we provide, we need to consider how to best use the new tools in the development process for the benefit of our clients. This shift affects both our internal processes and the services we offer to clients. It's a dual transformation.
Q: So, how has this transformation impacted developers? Are there new roles or challenges in hiring?
Jaakko: So far the impact has varied a lot between different application areas. Studies show that only a fraction of a developer's daily work is writing code, and GenAI-based tools can handle this part best. Among other things, developers also engage in communication, interpreting documentation, and solving customer problems. So, in the short term, I see a shift in daily activities, with more emphasis on high-level tasks and less on repetitive, manual work.
Q: What AI tools do you use at work?
Jaakko: I mainly use ChatGPT, which has replaced some of my Google searches, and Microsoft Office Copilot for emails and other tasks. However, most of my duties involve unique problems that AI can’t yet fully addressed. It's about finding the right areas for applying AI .
Q: What challenges do you see ahead for Siili and similar companies?
Jaakko: The biggest challenge is how software will be generated in the future and how digital services and products will be created. Low-code platforms and new AI tools have already begun transforming application development. We are continuously reinventing ourselves to create and deliver value to our customers.
Q: Do clients drive the demand for AI integration, or is it more of an initiative from Siili?
Jaakko: It's both. Clients are curious about AI and its opportunities due to the current buzz. However, we also see ourselves as educators and pioneers, guiding customers on what's possible and how to achieve it.
Q: On a personal note, what are your interests outside of work?
Jaakko: I enjoy various sports. I played football until I was about 18 or 19. Nowadays, I focus more on endurance sports. Currently, I do a lot of cycling, running, and swimming. In winter, cross-country skiing is my go-to activity. These sports help me keep my mind clear, especially during busy and challenging times.
